Toroman sees easier Asiad field for RP 5

Manila, - He's no fortune teller but Serbian coach Rajko Toroman could foresee a positive outlook for the Smart Gilas RP Team in the Asian Games next year.Prospects are quite rosy for the Philippines since the top players from Asia would most likely miss the 2010 games in Guangzhou, China.Toroman said Chinese players Yi Jianlian of the Milwaukee Bucks and Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets along with Iran's Hamed Haddadi (Memphis Grizzlies) would miss the November 11-27 Asiad because of the ongoing NBA season.

Olympics? Hard but possible – Toroman

Making it to the 2012 London Olympics is a tall order, but with a solid program, hard work, and sheer determination, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) believes it can be done.
SBP executive director Noli Eala and Serbian mentor Rajko Toroman, project director for Smart-Gilas national developmental pool yesterday expressed confidence they can achieve their goal.
“I’ll take my experience watching a lot of (international) games. It’s going be tough. To be realistic, it’s not a shoo-in or a matter of just showing up and we’ll win the slot,” Eala said in yesterday’s PSA Forum at the Shakey’s U.N. Ave. branch.

SBP program seen as boon to college players

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) project director Rajko Toroman said he is pleased with the way some of his players in the Smart Gilas RP team are playing in the collegiate wars.
Toroman, who established his coaching reputation by guiding Iran to its first of back-to-back FIBA Asia Championships, praised the performance of Dylan Ababou of the University of Santo Tomas, Aldrech Ramos and Mark Barroca of Far Eastern University, and RJ Jazul and Rey Guevarra of Letran.

SBP remains undaunted by tough Olympic task

MANILA, Philippines - Despite the overwhelming odds, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) remains confident of its chances for the lone Olympic berth staked in the Asian zone.
Speaking at the PSA Forum, SBP executive director Noli Eala cited the cage body’s long-term program through the RP-Smart Gilas team under Serbian coach Rajko Toroman as one of the reasons why Team RP has a shot for the Olympic slot.
